The South Sydney Rabbitohs are still experiencing unrest. This week, rumors circulated that head coach Jason Demetriou had been fired. There were rumors circulating last week that they had decided to sign St Helens’ Lewis Dodd.

According to Australian reports, a new favorite has surfaced to replace Demetriou. Wayne Bennett, the former England coach, is currently the front-runner to return to South Sydney. In addition, he served as the club’s coach from 2019 to 2021.

Braith Anasta revealed in an interview with Fox 360 that Souths conferred with Bennett over the agreement.

Souths CEO Blake Solly talked about the head coach’s importance in the team’s transfer strategy in a previous interview.

Here, we’ve always had a system where the head coach has a lot of influence over who we hire and keep, but he or she doesn’t get the last say.

In his interview, Solly stated, “So, if there’s a head coach who doesn’t want to work with Lewis, they probably shouldn’t be the head coach.”

Anasta contends that the Rabbitohs need to be aware of the identity of their incoming head coach. It seems improbable, in his opinion, that the new coach would have avoided the conversations.
